Description

Having already studied the foundation course in Year 3, this course builds upon child’s knowledge. It begins by recapping the chronological order of the topics they learnt last year. We discuss how and why historians use sources and even make our very own primary source for future generations to discover! We then move into the prehistoric world learning about palaeontologists, the Ice Age and early humans. This year we go global – what was the ancient world like elsewhere? Children get the chance to learn how India, China and Middle East developed during the stone and bronze ages.

Moving through time via Celtic paganism and the Mayans, we learn of Viking invasions and the madness of the medieval times, before discovering how England came to be without a monarch for 11 years. The course ends with the Wild West, the Second World War and the impact it had on children and finding out how the post-war world wasn’t exactly peaceful…

Children will be making their own ice age memory games, writing cuneiform onto Mesopotamian clay and even using chalk to draw life size cowboys!

Having completed the year 3 and 4 course, a child’s understanding will deepening, and their love of history will too.
